How To Practice More Efficiently – Video Practice Journal – April 26, 2012

by Rob Reid on April 26, 2012

Hey Guys,

A quick video during today’s practice session on how I break down an excerpt from a piece that is causing difficulty. Too many times I see my students playing a lot of excess music when they are trying to work on a problem which in turn means that they aren’t “really” working on the problem.

Always remember – “practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes permanent” – You can easily get really good at making mistakes!

Hopefully this advice will help you a bit in learning how to isolate a problem and really work it out!

Cheers!

Rob

Sorry if I am repeating a question that has been asked before. Do you have any advice on how to go about memorizing pieces, please? I have known goldfish with better retention that I have.
Thanks.

Hey Eddie,

That’s a great one – I’m on my way out the door right now but I’ll try and think something up and get a video done today or tomorrow!
