Hey Guys,
Just thought I’d post this here – I’d heard about teaching via skype for awhile but was very suspicious of what I’d actually be able to achieve with my students considering the limited sound quality etc… but after just teaching my first lesson I’ve got to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
Classical Guitar from Newfoundland to Around The World!
Now the student in question is a beginner so there was lots of stuff to talk about and I would worry about teaching a more advanced student over the net as I’d really like to be able to hear what they’re working on with greater sound quality but overall I got a very good feel for where the student was both technically and musically and I think we both felt that it was a very positive experience overall.
One thing I heard from another guitarist who teaches over Skype was that with more advanced students you can have them record a small excerpt, or the whole piece, and have them send it over to you via email/dropbox etc… so that you can really hear the piece and then talk about interpretational/technical challenges that way etc…
Without sounding too cliche I’ve gotta say that technology never ceases to amaze me and I think it’s a pretty incredible world we’re living in at the moment!
Have you done any lessons via skype (teacher or student)?
Let me know, I’d love to hear about it!
Cheers,
Rob
